Province says move reflects changing workplace standards across Ontario.
Ontario public servants are now required to work in the office full time, as the province’s return-to-work policy takes effect.
The Ontario government says the Ontario Public Service has moved to a five-days-a-week, in-office standard as of Jan. 5, 2026. The policy also applies to provincial agencies, boards and commissions.
Treasury Board President Caroline Mulroney says the decision reflects the current workforce landscape across Ontario and aligns with how most public and private sector organizations now operate.
The government notes that more than half of Ontario public servants were already attending the workplace full time based on the nature of their jobs.
Employees who had previously been working under hybrid arrangements transitioned to increased in-office attendance ahead of the full return.
The province says the change supports public service excellence and is part of its broader efforts to build a more competitive, resilient and self-reliant Ontario.
