Sections of the highway were closed throughout the day.
It took much of the day for clean up crews to clear the debris left on Highway 401.
The blistery winter weather combined with treacherous road conditions led to several crashes along the highway on a stretch between Brighton and Odessa on Tuesday.
The biggest was in Trenton where a transport truck burst into flames after colliding with several vehicles between Glen Miller Rd and Wallbridge Loyalist Rd around 10 am.
OPP say there were at least 50 vehicles involved in the crash. All lanes in both directions were closed as a result.
They say there were only minor injuries to four people and no fatalities. Those who were stranded on the highway were taken by bus to Trenton Arena where they were stayed throughout the day until they were allowed to be on their way.
As that crash was being sorted out, another occurred on the 401 63 kilometres east in Napanee.
OPP say two transport trucks collided in the westbound lanes at Palace Rd around 12:30 pm. One of the trucks rolled over into the side of the highway.
There was no word on injuries in that crash. All westbound lanes were closed at County Rd 4 in Odessa.
OPP reopened the westbound lanes at around 4 pm in both Napanee and Trenton. The east bound lanes were reopened at 9:30 pm.
