Most of the calls were vehicles going into ditches.
Eastern Ontario roads have seen a surge in collisions as snowy and icy conditions continue to challenge drivers.
From 6 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to nearly 200 crashes across the region, mostly vehicles sliding into ditches. None of the drivers expected to lose control.
Authorities are warning residents to be extra cautious today as conditions remain changeable. Many roads still have snow cover, while others are partially icy.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and keep full attention on the road ahead. Passing working snow plows is illegal, especially when multiple plows operate side by side on 400-series highways.
Police stress that minor collisions can happen to anyone and that careful, defensive driving is the best way to avoid accidents.
Residents are reminded to give themselves extra travel time and stay alert while conditions remain hazardous.
