Hazardous winter weather forces suspension of mail service across parts of Ontario.
Mail delivery was suspended in Kingston yesterday after Canada Post issued a red delivery service alert due to hazardous winter weather conditions.
Canada Post said a red alert means all mail delivery and collection are paused for the day to protect the safety of employees. Delivery agents are not sent out, and service will resume once conditions improve and it is safe to do so.
Kingston is among several Ontario communities under a red alert, including Belleville, Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, London and Peterborough. Red alerts are issued when weather conditions make delivery unsafe.
In contrast, a yellow service alert is in place for broader regions such as Eastern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area, where delivery may continue but delays are possible.
Canada Post said alerts can be issued for individual communities or entire regions depending on the severity of the weather. Updates are posted on its delivery service alerts webpage and social media platforms.
Customers are encouraged to clear snow and ice from walkways, stairs and driveways to ensure safe access when service resumes.
