Focus groups launched to gather community input on a regional food strategy.
A new regional food strategy is taking shape in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, and local voices are being invited to the table.
The Food Policy Council for KFL&A has launched a series of targeted focus groups to help guide the development of a comprehensive local food strategy. Working with Queen’s University and community partners, the council is consulting with farmers, food businesses, educators and service providers.
Co-chair Ellen Mortfield says five focus groups will be held over the next two months, focusing on rural and urban food production, food security, retail and distribution, and food education and literacy. Each session will include a shared meal and guided discussion on what is working and what needs improvement.
The consultations are funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and Frontenac County, with support from Kingston Community Health and the City of Kingston.
Community researcher Ayla Fenton is coordinating the sessions. Interested participants can contact aylafoodpolicykfla@gmail.com for more information.
