Boaters rejoice, drivers delayed.
After a chilly start to the season, boaters along the Rideau Canal Corridor and St. Lawrence River are gearing up for a busier weekend on the water.
Public Services and Procurement Canada says the LaSalle Causeway in Kingston will close on Saturday, May 31, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to allow boats to pass through.
It also means that drivers should prepare alternate routes.
The modular bridge will be removed starting at 6 a.m., with the marine channel expected to open by 9 a.m. It will close again at 5 p.m. for bridge reinstallation.
During this time, the causeway will be fully closed to all vehicle, cyclist, and pedestrian traffic.
Boaters are encouraged to take advantage of this brief window, as the temporary bridge has limited access to the St. Lawrence River throughout the navigation season.
The scheduled removals are in place while a permanent solution for the Causeway's throughpass is sought.
