Kingston's speed cameras gone in a flash

The pilot program is set to end next Friday.

The City of Kingston says its automated speed enforcement (ASE) pilot will end on Nov. 14, 2025, after provincial legislation removed municipal authority for such programs.

On that date, all ASE cameras will be deactivated, planned rotations into new community safety zones will be cancelled and equipment and signage will be removed shortly after. Speeding infractions recorded before Nov. 14 will still be processed, and vehicle owners remain responsible for paying any fines even if a notice arrives after the program ends.

The announcement comes as the city updates residents on changes to its road-safety strategy, directing people to visit their website for more details. The decision marks a significant shift in how Kingston will enforce speed limits moving forward, putting more emphasis on traditional policing and community awareness.
