Partners in Mission has a new piece of equipment.
The food bank in Kingston introduced a new riding forklift at their warehouse on Harvey St. on Tuesday.
Executive Director Dan Irwin says the forklift will make it easier for their volunteers to move goods throughout the warehouse.
The new forklift has a 25-year lifespan. The $22,000 cost was covered through an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant.
Irwin was joined by Shanel Da Silva from MPP Ted Hsu's office for the announcement.
Irwin says being able to receive the OTF grant is a great relief.
Irwin is one of three people at the food bank who are licensed to operate the forklift and its use will be restricted to those who are licensed.
He says the new forklift comes as demand for the food bank continues to increase.
Irwin says the food bank has helped over 9,000 people so far this year. He says that's the amount they served in all of 2024 and there is six more weeks left to go in 2025.
