Kingston to implement total burn ban

No open-air fires allowed in both urban and rural areas due to hot, dry conditions.

Burn bans are coming to Kingston.

Starting Saturday at 9 am, the City is issuing a total ban on open-air burning in both urban and rural areas.

That includes: campfires, agriculture fires, cooking fires, as well as setting off fireworks.

The ban does not cover appliances with mechanical shut-off vales such as barbecues, stoves, and smokers but people are asked to exercise caution when operating these appliances.

In a news release, the current hot, dry conditions and increased risk of wildfire prompted the City to issue the ban.

They say it will remain in place until conditions improve and if Kingston Fire and Rescue deems it safe to lift the restrictions.
