Kingston teen with cancer looking to live out the rest of her life

Leah Buckler's cancer returned; a Go-Fund-Me account has been set up to help her family.

A Kingston-area family is still looking for a miracle though it appears their hopes are fading.

13-year-old Leah Buckler has been battling cancer for the last couple of years and her family believed she was on her way to a full recovery.

Leah went on with Reid and Ben of FLY FM last year to talk about her cancer battle and listeners were touched by her story.

But earlier this year, Leah's cancer returned and her mother, Melissa, doesn't believe she has much time left.

Melissa told KingstonDaily.ca that doctors discovered that her osteosarcoma has spread to rest of her body.

Osteosarcoma is a rare form of cancer that typically starts in the bone.

Leah's cancer was initially discovered in one of her legs.

Melissa says they had planned on going overseas this summer to help Leah in her cancer battle.

Melissa says after learning about her daughter's cancer returning, Leah has decided not to continue her fight.

A Go-Fund-Me account was first set up to help the family pay for expenses while Leah was receiving treatment.

The account has been reactivated but this time the funds will be used to help cover Leah's bucket list.

Melissa says one of Leah's bucket list items was to graduate Grade Eight and she was able to do that this year.

She says they also plan to use the money to cover other things that she needs.

Melissa says she is overwhelmed by the number of people, some who have no connection to Leah or the family, who have reached out to help.

Despite her grim outlook, Melissa says Leah has been able to handle her latest setback well.
