The vote on dissolving the taxi commission is over the failure of producing financial documents.
The Kingston Area Taxi Commission (KATC) is urging city council to delay a vote to dissolve the agency, saying more discussion is needed about its role.
Coun. Brandon Tozzo resigned from the commission Thursday, citing a lack of progress in providing overdue financial documents. He supports bringing taxi regulation under city administration.
KATC chair Joseph Dowser said the commission has made progress, noting that until 2021 it operated solely on cash with no digital records, causing audit delays. He said financial operations are now fully digitized and committed to submitting the past three years of reports by early 2026, possibly sooner.
Dowser said the move to dissolve the commission lacked stakeholder consultation and warned it could threaten $310,000 invested in accessible taxi services. Those funds support vehicles for people with disabilities.
Council will decide the commission’s future at its meeting Tuesday night.
