Praveen Jain and J. Curtis Nickel are being recognized for their work in energy and medicine respectively.
Two Kingston area residents are the latest appointments to the Order of Canada.
Praveen Jain and J. Curtis Nickel were both named as officers of the order on Wednesday.
Kingston's Jain is a professor at Queen's University. He is being recognized for advancing efforts in efficient power generation, transmission and use through electronics.
In a news release, Jain has shaped the field while mentoring more than 100 trainees, earning recognition as an outstanding educator and innovator.
Nickel is from Sydenham and is one of the world’s leading urologists. The professor emeritus at Queen’s is being recognized for conducting landmark studies that reshaped the clinical understanding of infectious, inflammatory and pain-related diseases of the bladder and prostate.
In the same news release, Nickel's work has significantly improved the quality of life for millions of patients around the world.
Jain and Nickel are two of 80 appointees to the Order of Canada.
Other notable names on the 2025 list include Olympian Andre DeGrasse and musician Terri Clark.
