Kingston Frontenac Public Library says its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge saw a major jump in reading time across the community.
Kingston Frontenac Public Library says local readers doubled their reading time during this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
Community members across Kingston and Frontenac County logged a combined 3.2 million minutes of reading this summer, up from 1.6 million minutes in 2025.
The challenge encouraged people of all ages to read throughout the summer through programs, events and prizes. Prize winners have now been selected and are listed on the library’s website.
Liz Coates, manager of programming and outreach, says the library is thrilled with the community’s response.
She says reading helps build literacy skills and supports lifelong learning.
The library says summer reading programs can also help prevent “summer slide,” when children lose some reading skills during the school break.
KFPL is encouraging residents to keep reading by joining its Read It Your Way Reading Challenge, which promotes reading habits throughout the year.
