The scam involves swapping fake jewelry and stealing real ones.
There is a family going around Kingston asking random people for directions to the hospital.
Kingston Police say while it is natural for residents to help those in need, this is part of a scam.
Investigators say the scam involves a man, a woman, and 2 or 3 children who approach elderly people asking for help in directing them to the hospital under the pretense of making a charitable donation.
They say the suspects offer the victim a gift for their assistance, which consists of costume jewellery, placing a ring or necklace on their target.
But the victim later realizes that their existing jewelry was taken.
The suspects are driving a grey or pale green 4-door small to mid-size SUV or hatchback.
The incidents have been occurring in parking areas outside grocery stores and shopping centres.
Anyone with information about this is asked to contact Kingston Police at 613-549-4660, ext. 0.
