Over $35,000 in fines handed out
Kingston Police are thanking partner agencies and local students after a busy St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
Despite large crowds, police say there were no major issues, thanks to their communication strategy and Police Liaison Teams.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Kingston Fire and Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics, and police from Smiths Falls, Brockville, Gananoque, Belleville, and the Ontario Provincial Police, assisted with the celebrations.
Officers issued a total of $35,760 in fines on March 15. Kingston Police handed out $1,630 in penalties for open liquor, public intoxication, traffic violations, and other offences. City bylaw officers issued $34,130 in fines, including $16,500 for failing to leave premises, $14,000 for hosting nuisance parties, and $3,600 for amplified sound.
Kingston Police Chief Scott Fraser said the force was able to reduce its presence while keeping the public safe. He also thanked Queen’s University and law enforcement partners for their support.
