Investigators say marijuana, tobacco, and a bottle of rum were among the items seized during search.
Kingston Police intercepted a drone containing drugs that they say was bound for the Collins Bay Institution.
Officers were patrolling the Bath Rd-Tanner Dr area Saturday afternoon when they noticed an idling vehicle with two individuals inside.
Investigators say the vehicle sped off nearly running a red light at an intersection after they were spotted.
A traffic stop ensued and an officer noticed a strong odour of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle while speaking with the driver. That led to a search where a black sock containing 25 tightly-wrapped packages was found plus a drone equipped with an after-market payload release system.
Investigators also found a quantity of tobacco, marijuana, percocet tablets, MDMA, a mini cell phone and a bottle of rum. They believe the items were to have been smuggled into the prison using the drone.
A 26-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested, charged and were later released with a future court date.
