Mark Gerretsen won his fourth term as Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands with what amounts to be his largest victory yet.
The Whig reports that he secured 48,682 votes, or 63.2 per cent of the 77,425 ballots cast, which gives him the third-highest vote total for a Liberal candidate in Canada, behind Marie-France LaLonde in Orléans and Yasir Naqvi in Ottawa Centre.
The riding has 134,415 residents and 106,997 eligible voters.
Nationally, the official toll shows the Liberal Party won 169 seats with 8.56 million votes (43.7 per cent), while the Conservative Party took 144 seats with 8.08 million votes (41.3 per cent).
