Who’s in charge while he runs for MP?
Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson has taken an unpaid leave of absence to run as the Conservative candidate in the April 28 federal election. If he wins, he will resign as mayor. If he loses, he plans to return and serve out his term until 2026.
With Paterson stepping away, Deputy Mayor Conny Glenn will temporarily take over leadership at City Hall starting April 1. Glenn, a Sydenham District councillor, will handle mayoral duties such as signing city documents and chairing council meetings but will not have full mayoral powers or salary.
If Paterson wins the federal seat, Kingston must hold a by-election to elect a new mayor. Glenn and other councillors may consider running, but no one has formally announced their candidacy.
For now, Glenn is focused on keeping City Hall running smoothly.
