A Kingston city councillor says he was left out of a surprise motion to rename Indian Road and two local parkettes.

King’s Town Coun. Greg Ridge brought the motion forward, seconded by Lakeside Coun. Wendy Stephen.
But Meadowbrook–Strathcona Coun. Jeff McLaren, whose district includes Indian Road, says he wasn’t consulted before it was submitted.
McLaren said he tried to explore renaming Indian Road in 2017 and 2021, but most residents at the time did not support the change.
He shared those details in an open letter to constituents and in an email to the Whig-Standard.
McLaren said the new motion assumes the name will be changed and focuses only on selecting a new one and helping residents adjust.
He says he’s open to seeing if opinions have shifted in recent years.
