KLBC foursome finishes second and earns spots on Team Canada.
A Kingston Lawn Bowling Club team is heading to the world championships after a strong finish at the national level.
Jim Baggs, Carol-Anne Bell, Scott Bell and Phil Pownall won the silver medal at the National Short Mat Championships in Lindsay on Sunday. The foursome placed second out of 16 teams, saving their best performance for the final rounds of the tournament.
The result secured all four players a place on the Canadian delegation bound for the World Short Mat Championships in Norway next March. Canada will send a 20-player team to compete against top bowlers from around the globe.
Club officials praised the group’s steady play, focus and teamwork throughout the weekend. The silver medal marks one of the Kingston club’s strongest national results in recent years.
The upcoming world championships will give the Kingston athletes a chance to represent both their club and Canada on the international stage.
