They say this holiday season has already seen a number of serious and fatal crashes.
Eastern Ontario has already seen serious and even fatal collisions during the holiday season, with alcohol playing a role in many crashes. The Ontario Provincial Police say they have charged numerous drivers for being impaired behind the wheel.
Authorities are urging residents to plan ahead to stay safe. Options include using a designated driver, taking a taxi or ride-share, using public transit, or staying put if necessary. Police emphasize that even a short sleep does not remove alcohol or drugs from the system. Drivers may still be dangerously impaired the next morning.
“Impaired driving can be deadly and life-changing,” the OPP said. “Everyone should make safe choices to protect themselves and others on the road.”
The OPP remind drivers that holiday celebrations are not worth risking lives. Responsible planning can prevent accidents and ensure everyone gets home safely this season.
