Dry weather gets the blame.
A level One Fire Ban has been declared by South Frontenac’s Fire Chief Del Blakney.
The ban means no open-air burning is allowed. That includes burning grass, brush, or other materials. Fireworks are also not permitted during this time.
Cooking fires and campfires are still allowed, but officials ask residents to be extra careful. Blakney says the area is facing dry conditions and a moderate fire risk. He’s asking everyone to help prevent wildfires by following the rules.
Fire season in South Frontenac runs from April 1 to October 31. If conditions get worse, a Total Fire Ban could be issued. That would stop all outdoor fires, including campfires and cooking.
No permit is needed for open-air fires in the township, but all fires must be watched at all times, as stated in the local fire by-law.
