Flow of good could resume soon
Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon is invoking federal powers to intervene in the dispute that has stopped Canada's two largest railways on their tracks.
Under his order, both sides will be forced into binding arbitration. In the meantime, the Minister is asking the railways to resume operations.
This is the first time Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City have both locked out Teamsters Canada rail workers. The move came after months of failed negotiations failed to produce an agreement.
The result has been a disrupted supply chain across the country that was expected to result in retailers being in short supply of everyday goods used by Canadians.
