Yellow cold warning in effect Friday with ongoing frostbite risk.
A yellow cold warning remains in effect Friday as frigid air continues to impact the region, bringing dangerous wind chills and a moderate risk of frostbite.
Environment officials say wind chills dropped to between minus 33 and minus 38 overnight and remain near minus 36 this morning. Temperatures sit near minus 26, with light northwest winds keeping conditions bitterly cold.
Some improvement is expected later today. Despite the brighter skies, wind chills are forecast to stay near minus 20, keeping the risk of frostbite elevated throughout the day.
Residents are urged to limit time outdoors and cover exposed skin, as frostbite can develop within minutes. Officials also remind people that if it is too cold for you to stay outside, it is too cold for pets as well.
