The City of Kingston announced that they have terminated the letter of intent with the Patry Group, Milhaus, and Broccolini.

Plans to build a conference centre in downtown Kingston appears to have hit a snag.

The City announced on Tuesday that they have terminated a letter of intent with the Patry Group, Milhaus, and Broccolini for the redevlopment of the Block 4 land located across the street from Slush Puppie Place.

In a news release, the City says they were unable to reach an agreement with their preferred developer on the project during their 120-day exclusive negotiating period.

Mayor Bryan Paterson says it simply came down to money.

While the negotiations have fallen through, the City still plans to build a downtown conference centre.

Paterson says this decision does not mean the City has to start from scratch as there are a lot of details that remain in play.

City staff will be exploring the opportunity with community partners and report back to Council later this year.

Paterson says they will now be accepting proposals from interested companies once the contract is put up for tender.

Council’s Strategic Priority of Driving Inclusive Economic Growth includes exploring the redevelopment of Block 4 to include a conference centre space.
