Scope of audit will cover the last four years, Council also approved using $400,000 to cover outstanding debts at the commission.
The City of Kingston is moving ahead with a forensic audit of the Kingston and Area Taxi Commission.
City Council voted unanimously to approve a staff recommendation for the audit as well as use $400,000 from the working fund reserve at their meeting on Tuesday.
The City and some on Council are hoping the audit will get to the bottom of the financial discrepancies at the commission.
Cllr Gregory Ridge says the audit will cover a period between 2022 to today.
As previously reported, staff found the commission were engaged in a lawsuit over wrongful dismissal, had unpaid payroll taxes, and spent money on consultants.
There was also the Accessible Taxi Program where it was found to be $230,000 in the red.
Ridge says there needs to accountability and hopes to get to the bottom of this.
Ridge, who also serves as Chair at KATC, says there are people who are frustrated with what's been happening.
There is no timeline as to when the forensic audit will be completed.
