The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is this Tuesday.
Kingston will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30 with closures, service changes and community events.
City Council declared the date a civic holiday in 2021 to allow employees and residents to reflect on the legacy of Canada’s residential school system.
There will be no garbage or green bin collection on Sept. 30, with pickup delayed by one day. The Kingston Area Recycling Centre and all administrative offices will be closed. Kingston Transit will run on a weekday schedule, but its Customer Service Office will be closed. Utilities Kingston will remain open.
Recreation centres, arenas, libraries, the Grand Theatre Box Office and marinas will operate on regular schedules.
Events include a community gathering hosted by the Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest at Confederation Basin, from 1 to 5:30 p.m., and a Community Walk for Truth and Reconciliation at 6 p.m. beginning at McBurney Park.
