Staff from YGK Airport, the City of Kingston, Kingston Fire & Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics, Nav Canada, Transport Canada and local airport partner groups took part in the full-scale training exercise.
The YGK Airport in Kingston turned into a mock disaster zone as crews responded to a simulated aircraft crash with casualties on the runway.
The full-scale emergency training exercise on Tuesday involved staff from YGK Airport, the City of Kingston, Kingston Fire & Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics, Nav Canada, Transport Canada and local airport partner groups.
Carli Mitchell, Supervisor of Operations and Administration at YGK Airport, said the drill helped first responders test their skills and improve their readiness for real emergencies. The exercise was facilitated by the Loomex Group, which specializes in emergency response training and planning.
Mitchell said the event also allowed agencies to practice communication and teamwork, building trust needed during major crises.
Under Transport Canada regulations, airports must complete a full-scale emergency exercise every four years to assess and strengthen response plans.
Officials say the exercise was well attended and considered highly successful.
