Her career spans 39 years, the last 3 as chief of Kingston Fire and Rescue.

Kingston's fire chief is retiring.

The City announced on Monday that Monique Blair will be leaving her post at Kingston Fire and Rescue on July 31.

Blair has been in Kingston since 2023 after serving as fire chief in Belleville.

She has spent 39 years working in a number of roles related to fire and rescue including being deputy fire chief in Oakville and St. Catherine's.

In a news release, Blair started her career as one of five females in Canada serving with the Canadian Armed Forces as a crash rescue structural firefighter.

She also founded Camp Molly, a program that provides a unique opportunity for young people 15-18 to learn what it’s like to have a career in fire services.

Blair was named as Biosteel’s Women of Inspiration in 2019 and nominated for the 2022 and 2023 Premier’s Award for Community Services.

She also received an honorary diploma from Loyalist College in 2023 for her outstanding achievements and community impact.

The City says there will be comprehensive recruitment process for the City’s next fire chief.

In the meantime, an interim fire chief will be named to ensure steady leadership at KFR.
