Bear spray incident forces early shutdown of fall fair on Saturday

Police are looking for a suspect in that case; two youths were arrested in a separate incident.

The Kingston Fall Fair was shut down early Saturday night after police were called to multiple incidents, including one involving bear spray.

Police say the trouble began around 10:05 p.m. on Sept. 13, when officers responded to reports of someone deploying bear spray into a crowd at the Memorial Centre grounds. Two people were treated at the scene by Frontenac Paramedics for minor injuries that did not require further medical attention.

Investigators say no suspect has been identified, as there were no witnesses or video surveillance, but the case remains under investigation. Police believe the incident was isolated.

Two other unrelated events led to arrests. A 15-year-old was arrested for weapons offences and breach of release conditions, while a 17-year-old was arrested for breach of release conditions. Both were held for bail hearings.

The fair was closed at approximately 10:30 p.m. as a safety precaution.
