Vehicles will pay between 50 cents to a dollar more per trip.
Amherst Island residents will see changes to ferry fares and how they pay starting in the new year, according to Loyalist Township.
The township is rolling out a new Amherst Island Ferry Transit Card and adjusting some fees for vehicle users. The increases are limited to no more than one dollar. Fares for pedestrians and cyclists will remain unchanged. The new vehicle rates take effect Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.
The transit card replaces the former 25-ride bulk ticket package. It works as a stored-value card, allowing riders to load funds and pay as they travel. The minimum load is $110, which equals 25 rides.
Riders can choose between a digital or physical card. Digital cards can be purchased online and stored on a smartphone wallet, while physical cards will be available from ferry pursers. Both options can be used starting Jan. 5.
Older tickets will be accepted for a limited time. White tickets will be valid until Feb. 15, 2026, with a small fare difference applying after that date.
More information is available on the Loyalist Township website.
