5 community groups receive funding for events in rural Kingston

Each recipient received up to $5,000 from the City's Rural Community Development Fund.

The spotlight was beaming on rural communities in Kingston.

A presentation was made at the Glenburnie Fire Hall on Thursday to formally announce that 5 community groups received grants of up to $5,000 from the City's Rural Community Development Fund.

Mayor Bryan Patterson was on hand to congratulate the recipients.

This is the first year of the program.

Manager of Rural Economic and Community Development Tracey Snow says they wanted to showcase vibrant community events and programs that celebrate rural life and culture.

The 5 grant recipients are:

Fall Pumpkin Smashing Event
Sounds of the Pines
Grass Creek Disc Golf Course
Honeybee Festival
Drawn to Nature – Rural Art Party

Snow says they received hundreds of applications from community group who are looking for funding.

She says it is great to see a diverse number of community groups that not only applied but also receiving the grants.

Snow says the program is also meant to encourage urban residents to go out and explore what the rural area of Kingston has to offer.
