Woman charged after being found doing drugs next to child

The 4-year-old is currently under the care of Family and Children Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.

Local children and family services is looking after a 4-year-old after a woman was found to be intoxicated by drugs and alcohol.

Officers with Kingston Police were doing patrol in the area of Princess St and Drayton Ave Thursday night.

Investigators say they found a group of people engaging in open-air drug use around 8:30 pm. One member of the group was a woman who happened to have a child with her.

They say the women turned out to be the child's mother. The child was not dressed for the winter weather conditions.

Investigators say the woman fled with the child to a nearby restaurant as officers tried to break up the group. Officers then followed the woman and child to the restaurant where both were found sitting inside.

They say the woman appeared to be under the influence and when asked for identification, she pulled out a half-empty bottle of alcohol instead.

Investigators say the woman later attacked the officers as she was being placed under arrest. A 26-year-old from Windsor is facing charges and was held for a bail hearing.

The child was taken to police headquarters and is now under the care of Family and Children Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.
