Kingston celebrates Special Olympics Ontario Night as the Colts hand the Frontenacs another frustrating loss
The Kingston Frontenacs extended their losing streak to nine games Saturday with a 2–1 loss to the Barrie Colts at Slush Puppie Place, despite a strong crowd celebrating Special Olympics Ontario Night.
The Frontenacs were held off the scoresheet through two periods as Barrie controlled the pace and generated sustained pressure. The Colts opened the scoring late in the first period when Ben Hrebik wired a shot into the top left corner, leaving goaltender Matthew Minchak with no chance.
Kingston finally broke through eight minutes into the third period. Nolan Buttar recorded his second goal of the season, assisted by Kieren Dervin and Matthew Henderson, giving the home crowd of 2,774 a brief spark.
Head coach Troy Mann said the game’s turning point came when Barrie restored its lead with a second goal in the third.
He added the team’s biggest challenge remains finishing scoring chances, though he was satisfied with the bench’s energy level.
Minchak made 40 saves in a busy night. Kingston pulled the goalie for a late power-play push, but Barrie held the puck against the boards in the final seconds to secure the win.
Wednesday's game against the Oshawa General's at Slush Puppie Place starts at 7 pm. Catch the action with Jim Gilchrist on Upper Canada Fuel and Burner Frontenacs Hockey on New Country 98.9.
