It will 10 years since the iconic Canadian rock band played their last ever concert with their late frontman.
The City of Kingston is considering celebrating the milestone of an historic concert by one of Canada's most iconic rock bands.
This August will mark the 10th anniversary of the Tragically Hip's final concert with their late lead singer Gord Downie. The show was held at the now Slush Puppie Place in the band's hometown of Kingston on Aug 20, 2016.
Downie died on Oct 17, 2017 at the age of 53, almost two years after he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
The sold-out concert drew thousands to the Limestone City where there was a viewing party at Springer Market Square. The show was also broadcast live across Canada and around the world including Rio de Janeiro where the Summer Games were taking place at the time.
A staff report is coming to Tuesday's City Council meeting asking for $350,000 from the Working Fund Reserve. The funds would be used for programming, events and activations and associated production needs.
If approved, staff would report back to Council by the end of June on what events will be happening in the city to mark the occasion.
