Ontario funding will expand programs in science, technology, education and health care, with some seats available in fall 2026.
Queen’s University is receiving $104 million from the Ontario government to fund 3,604 additional student seats in high-demand fields.
The announcement was made Wednesday by Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security.
The funding will support programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), education and health care.
STEM programs will receive 2,496 seats, while education programs will receive 836 and health programs will receive 272. Some seats will be available to students as early as the fall 2026 academic year.
Queen’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane welcomed the investment, saying it will help prepare graduates for careers that are important to Ontario’s future.
The funding is part of the province’s broader $1.7-billion investment to support more than 70,000 additional postsecondary seats across Ontario.
The province says the expansion aims to address workforce needs, help employers find skilled workers and give more students access to education leading to in-demand careers.
