Queen's and SLC students get ready for another school year

Around 35,000 will be attending one of the two post-secondary schools in Kingston.

Post-secondary students are making their way back to Kingston in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Around 35,000 students will be attending either St. Lawrence College or Queen's University. Most will be coming in from other parts of Ontario, Canada, or around the world to live in Kingston while they go to school.

President and CEO of the Residence Society at Queen's Yahya Mohamed says this time of the year is the most exciting.

The official move-in day for Queen's students is Saturday September 5. St. Lawrence College students will receive a notice two weeks prior to moving in.

A number of streets will be closed to traffic on the Saturday to accommodate the move-in. And with a number of student residences located along Princess St where the Williamsville reconstruction project is happening, it will make things more difficult for people to get around.

Mohamed says plans have been put in place over the summer to ensure there are very little issues occurring.

Once students have moved into their residences, the fun begins.

There will be a number of events and activities happening around the campus and the city during the first week of classes.

Mohamed says Queen's has an orientation day where students can find out more about their school before heading to class.
