Correction to admission cost - Admission is by donation
The Parham Fair is set to return this Saturday after an alleged theft earlier this year put its future in doubt.
In February, about $20,000 went missing from the fair’s bank account. OPP charged treasurer Courtney Pare of Verona with theft over $5,000. The charge has not been proven in court.
The community rallied to replace the funds through donations, events, and support from other agricultural societies. An anonymous seasonal resident donated $10,000.
Organizers have since added safeguards, including background checks for those handling cash, weekly bank account monitoring, and monthly financial reports.
The 133rd fair will run for one day due to a lack of organizers. Admission this year is by donation.
Events include pony rides, a critter corral, farm games, frog jumping, home crafts competitions, music, and an antique car display.
The fair will go ahead rain or shine at the Parham Fairgrounds.
