The pair fell into the cold water as they went out on Dog Lake to do some ice fishing.
Two people had to be rescued after falling through ice north on Dog Lake in South Frontenac.
Emergency crews were called to an area on Battersea Rd around 7 pm Thursday.
Investigators with Frontenac OPP say two males were heading out towards the Gilmour Point Beach area to do some fishing. It was then that the pair fell through the ice and into the cold water.
They say the two males managed to get themselves out of the water but were stranded on the ice. Someone nearby heard their cries for help and called 911.
Investigators say during the rescue attempt, several firefighters fell through the ice but were able to continue thanks to their training and equipment. The OPP Emergency Response Team sent out a drone and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched two aircraft from CFB Trenton's 424 Search and Rescue Squadron to help with the search.
The pair were located and brought to shore then transported to hospital to be checked out and later released.
OPP are reminding the public that no ice is safe ice. They say those who go out on the lake put not only themselves at risk but also the first responders during rescue efforts.
