One person died after a fire erupted at a home Saturday night.
One person is dead following a house fire in Greater Napanee late Saturday night.
Lennox and Addington County OPP say officers were called to a home on Switzerville Road shortly before 9:30 p.m. on February 7. Napanee firefighters were already on scene and reported that people may have been trapped inside the residence.
Three men lived in the home. Two were able to escape. A 59-year-old man jumped from a second-floor balcony to get away from smoke and flames and was taken to hospital in critical condition. A 34-year-old man was not seriously injured.
A 65-year-old man was unaccounted for at the time of the fire. Firefighters later located human remains inside the home. A postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm the identity.
Fire crews remained on scene overnight. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Anyone with information is asked to contact L&A County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
