Ceremonies are taking place at Macdonald Park.
The City of Kingston is inviting residents to honour Canada’s veterans at the annual Civic Service of Remembrance on Nov. 11 at the Cross of Sacrifice in Macdonald Park.
The event includes a community wreath laying at 9:15 a.m., followed by military groups at 10:15 a.m. and the service at 10:45 a.m. Spectators are asked to arrive by 10:40 a.m. to see the parade, and should expect blank cannon blasts at 11 a.m. and 11:02 a.m.
Several streets, including sections of King, Barrie and Ontario streets, will be closed during the morning. Those unable to attend can watch broadcasts on YourTV at 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Roads closed include:
King Street from Lower University Avenue to Barrie Street from 8:15 a.m. to noon
King Street from Barrie to West Street, and Barrie Street from King to Stuart Street, from 10:20 a.m. to noon
Bagot Street from West to Barrie Street from 10 to 11 a.m.
Ontario Street from West to Gore Street from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. for the HMCS Cataraqui parade
There is no garbage or Green Bin collection on Nov. 11, and the Kingston Area Recycling Centre will be closed. Administrative offices, Housing and Social Services, Provincial Offences and the Kingston Grand Theatre are closed. Kingston Transit runs a weekday schedule; Kingston Access Bus offers limited service. Recreation centres and libraries remain open.
Most LCBO's will be closed and Beer stores remain open.
Residents are encouraged to observe two minutes of silence and wear a poppy.
