Police called the murder a femicide, which is a gender-based killing rooted in violence against women
A Kingston man charged with the murder of his 25-year-old partner appeared in bail court on May 23.
Hadden J. Harper, 26, was arrested one week earlier after police found a seriously injured woman at a west-end home.
She later died in hospital. Police say the case is being treated as a femicide.
Harper appeared by video from Quinte Detention Centre wearing a white self-harm prevention smock. He told the judge he wanted to be represented by lawyer Mark Snider but hadn’t yet spoken with him. The court adjourned the matter to give time for legal discussions.
Police say Harper barricaded himself inside a Berrywood Crescent home on May 16 before being arrested. Officers later found the injured woman inside. She was transported to hospital but did not survive. Kingston Police called the murder a femicide, which is a gender-based killing rooted in violence against women, according to UN Women.
