A new hospital is being proposed for the 401/Gardiners Rd area.
Kingston City Council is calling on neighbouring municipalities to help pressure the province to fast-track a major hospital redevelopment project.
Council unanimously passed a motion urging communities across southeastern Ontario to lobby the Ontario government for full funding and prioritization of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre redevelopment. The vote passed 12–0 at council’s final meeting of 2025.
The proposed project would replace the aging Kingston General Hospital with a new, modern hospital campus in the city’s west end. The current facilities are considered outdated and constrained, with limited space for growth and increasing concerns around reliability, safety, and accessibility.
The City of Kingston has already committed 95 acres of land at the Clogg’s Road Business Park for the future site. The redevelopment would consolidate major regional services, including specialized care and cancer treatment.
Council stressed the hospital serves more than 500,000 residents across several counties and said the rebuild is a regional priority requiring urgent provincial action.
