Close $141K was given to BGC South East for upgrades to former elementary school.
Upgrades to the heating system at Hughson Childcare Centre in Kingston are now complete thanks in large part to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Kingston and the Islands MPP Ted Hsu, OTF Vice-Chair Gary Bennett, Volunteer ambassador Jack Chaing, and CEO of Boy and Girls Club South East Harold Parsons were at the former Robert Meek Public School on Bagot St on Friday for the announcement.
The $140,900 grant covered eight new rooftop HVAC units, three new basement furnaces, and a comprehensive duct cleaning.
Parsons says the aging infrastructure was in need of serious repairs.
Parsons says had they not received any sort of funding, they would have had to cut back on their services.
The Boys and Girls Club took over the building in 2001 and is now home to childcare services for over 200 children.
Parsons says it has remained an important place for young families in Kingston.
