Robin Kuzma scored twice for Kingston who snapped a four-game losing streak.
A good start to the weekend for the Kingston Frontenacs as they look to catch up to the teams that are ahead of them in the standings.
One of them was at Slush Puppie Place on Friday as the North Bay Battalion carried a four-game winning streak into their game against the Frontenacs.
Kingston opened with three first period goals by Kieren Dervin, Robin Kuzma, and Matthew Frost. They added two more in the second from Kuzma and Nolan Snyder for a 5-0 lead.
Kuzma finished with three points and says it was nice to get the win after dropping all three games against division leaders last week.
Kuzma appreciated the help from his linemates when they tried to get him the hat trick goal late in the game.
After getting four shots in the opening frame, the Battalion fired 18 on Gavin Betts (33 saves) in the second period. One of them found the back of the net off the stick of Sebastien Gervais.
Dervin, Frost, Maleek McGowan, and Landon Wright had multi-point games for the Frontenacs.
Head coach Troy Mann says Dervin was especially good from both ends of the ice.
He also liked the contributions he got from the rest team.
Jack Lisson stopped 18 shots for the Battalion who are nine points up on the Frontenacs for fifth.
The win snaps the Frontenacs four-game losing streak. It also brings them to within three points of the sixth-place Niagara Ice Dogs who lost to Ottawa on Friday.
The Ice Dogs come into town Saturday afternoon. Game time at Slush Puppie Place is 4 pm.
If you can't make it to the game, be sure to catch the action with Jim Gilchrist on Upper Canada Fuel and Burner Frontenacs on Kingston's New Country 98.9.
