Ferry, health care on the mind of Kingston and the Islands MPP in 2025

The year also saw Ted Hsu get re-elected in the provincial election.

2025 has been quite a year for Kingston and the Islands MPP Ted Hsu.

The year began with a provincial election in February. Hsu was re-elected, one of 14 Liberals that were voted in.

Hsu says that number allowed them to regain official party status, something they didn't have after the 2022 election.

The election saw the Progressive Conservatives re-elected with another majority under Doug Ford. That eventually led to the resignation of Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie who had failed to gain a seat in the legislature.

Since the election, Hsu has been taking the government to task on several matters.

He says the Ford government still hasn't addressed the ongoing issues of health care and education.

One issue that has been getting a lot of attention in Kingston is the Wolfe Island ferry service. Since the launch of the Wolfe Islander IV electric-powered ferry in June, it has been plagued by mechanical issues and crew shortages.

Once again, Hsu pointed the finger squarely at the province.

Hsu says he will continue to hold the government to account as they turn the page to 2026.

But he says with sessions not resuming until the spring, it will not give him or opposition MPs to question the government's action in the legislature.
