Don’t get fined: Kingston fire officials urge residents to renew burn permits now

The permits are free and available online.

Kingston Fire & Rescue is reminding all residents to renew their open air burn permits for 2025.

The permits are free and available online, but must be reapplied for at the start of every calendar year.

The City of Kingston requires a valid permit before lighting any outdoor fire, including in chimineas, fire bowls, or burn barrels. Both property owners and tenants must apply.

There are different permit types depending on the kind of fire and property. Residents are also reminded to follow safety rules, such as keeping fires at least 3 metres away from structures, fences, or trees.

Fire officials say following the rules helps keep neighbours safe and avoids possible fines.

To learn more or get your permit, visit (bit.ly/KFRBP) or contact Fire Prevention at (613) 548-4001 ext. 5123 or FirePrevention@cityofkingston.ca.
