Kingston Police RIDE program nets impaired driving arrest
Kingston Police kicked off their Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program this December with one arrest for impaired driving, along with suspensions and other offences.
During a checkpoint on December 13 at 7:30 p.m. on Cataraqui Woods Drive, a 67-year-old driver was stopped. Despite showing no initial signs of impairment, Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) revealed a "Fail." The driver was arrested, charged, and his licence was suspended for 90 days.
The same checkpoint also saw a three-day licence suspension for a driver who blew in the Warn range (50-80 mg of alcohol). Officers issued tickets for Highway Traffic Act violations and charged another driver under the Cannabis Control Act.
R.I.D.E. programs increase during the holiday season to combat impaired driving. Police urge residents to plan ahead, use designated drivers, or take alternative transportation to ensure everyone arrives alive this season.
