CFB Kingston says concreate debris from the foot bridge necessitated emergency repairs.
Commuters who use the LaSalle Causeway are going to have to find another way home.
Kingston Police Service have closed down a stretch of Highway 2 between Tragically Hip Way and Navy Road.
The City of Kingston issued a news release on Friday saying the road is closed to allow for crews to make emergency repairs to the pedestrian bridge connecting Royal Military College and the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre.
In addition to the road closure, access to the pedestrian bridge has been closed.
CFB Kingston spokesperson Marion Bec, in an email to KingstonDaily.ca, says there was concreate debris that broke off from the structure and fell on to the road. They say military police and Real Property Operations Unit Detachment Kingston went down to assess the situation.
Bec says there will be an assessment of the structural integrity of the bridge, as well as mitigation measures to prevent personal or property damage for foot or vehicle traffic.
There is no word on when the bridge or the road will be reopened.
