Award-winning roots concert raises funds for Kingston families with sick children

Almost Home benefit concert at The Spire brings music and community support together.

Music and generosity filled The Spire on Saturday, Feb. 21, as the Almost Home Benefit Concert brought together award-winning Canadian roots musicians to support families with sick children.

The event featured a lively performance by The Western Swing Authority, renowned for blending western swing, jazz, country, and big-band sounds.

Lead vocalist, Stacey Lee Guse shares her after thoughts of the show.

Kingston’s own Savannah Shea and Logan Brown opened the show, offering acoustic-electric folk and blues-inspired tunes. Shea says that the concert was for a great cause.

All proceeds support Almost Home, a wheelchair-accessible facility within walking distance of Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital. The organization provides a home-like space for up to 11 families daily, allowing parents and siblings to stay nearby while children receive medical care.

Almost Home’s Fund Development Manager, Leslie Myles, says that the turn out was amazing.

Myles, said fundraisers like this are vital for easing the stress of families seeking accommodations during hospital visits.

The concert not only entertained but strengthened community support for local families in need.

There was also a 50/50 draw during the intermission of the show. The gentleman who won, chose to donate his winnings back into Almost Home.
